The Christmas Social 2008
I wanted to host the Christmas Social this year because (not boasting or anything) I think I have the best decorations. The entire room is stripped of its normal pictures and ornaments and every surface is covered with Christmas decorations, including the ceiling which this year was covered in blue voile with white and silver baubles hanging from it. Most people liked the penguins best as they are personalised to represent family and friends with one group of them being NWR with tea and biscuits!
Seventeen members came and all provided food for the buffet where we had the usual excellent variety of hot and cold dishes, including desserts, which were enjoyed by all. It was just a pity that we filled up so quickly!
After food the fun and games started. We began with Pass the Parcel but if you took off a wrapper there was a forfeit so everyone passed it as quickly as possible! Next we played Pass the Bomb where you have to think of words with certain letters in them as quickly as you can. If the bomb goes off you take a card.
Lastly we played a game where each person had to write down the names of 4 famous people, either fiction or non-fiction. The names were put into a basket and we then divided into two teams and took it in turns to take a name and describe the person to our team. When all the names had been guessed they were returned to the basket. For round 2 you had to mime the person and for round 3 you could only say one word to describe them. It was all very good fun and the party did not break up till one in the morning!
All in all it was a fun night and set the right tone for Christmas.
